The Burris Appointment - Who Is Really Breaking The Law
What kind of game is the Senate playing in regards to the allocation of former Senator, President Elect Obama’s senate seat. This is nothing more than a blatant, illegal show, from someone who has serious control issues, no better than Israel’s disproportionate attack on Gaza.
Roland Burris, who was legally appointed, by Governor Blagojevich, to replace President Elect Obama in the senate, has been blocked from taking that seat, based on the irrational Secretary of State… who refuses to sign Burris’ paperwork, which would allow him to take the senate seat.
Burris was blocked from the senate, which convened today for the first time. He was informed, by the senate, that his credentials were not in order. Well I guess they weren’t in order, if the Secretary of State’s signature was not on the paperwork.
I can not believe how the American people, regardless of the law which says, innocent until proven guilty, latch, so comfortably, on the concept of guilt by association. To witness, those that are responsible for forming law, act so willfully against the law; breaking the law and feeling totally justified in so doing.
Let’s look at truth. Rod Blagojevich is the Governor of Illinois. He may be a little shady and, maybe not. Obama’s choice for his secretary of commerce, Governor Bill Richardson, withdrew as nominee based on a federal grand jury investigation into his actions regarding the fact that some of his political donors won $1.5 million in state contracts. Richardson says that he and his administration, of course, acted properly in all matters regarding this incident.
This is basically the same kind of situation that Blagojevich is in - a “pay for play” situation. Now maybe Blagojevich was a little raw in the way he went about getting his “pay for play”, but if “pay for play” is the norm, then all Blagojevich is guilty of, is being a little raw. Richardson, after his withdrawal, will return to New Mexico and continue his term as Governor of New Mexico.
Blagojevich was arrested for a crime that, technically, he did not commit because no goods or services actually changed hands. “The people of Illinois” meaning the people who are filing all of this paperwork with the courts of Illinois, in an attempt to begin the impeachment process, did not have enough evidence, obviously, to force Blagojevich out of office, nor did they have enough evidence to limit Blagojevich’s duties as the Governor of Illinois, beyond the point of excluding him from documentation regarding national security, which is understandable because if he would, so blatantly, offer to sell the senate seat, there is no telling what else he may want to sell.
At any rate, just because he is still, Governor of Illinois, and they could not block him, in any way, from performing his duties as the, Governor of Illinois, he appointed Burris to the senate, which is one of the roles of the Governor of Illinois. Yet, because you do not like the attitude of Blagojevich, you can neither force him out of office, nor will he resign, you discount his appointment. You discount the appointment not based on the qualifications of the appointee but because of the attitude of the appointer.
Not only that, but you go against a law to achieve your need to discount Blagojevich, in whatever way you deem appropriate, even though, in so doing, you are the obvious one breaking the law because, If Blagojevich had truly broken the law, he would not still be, Governor of Illinois, he would be sitting in jail. Now, the madness in this demonstration of American politics is making my head spin.
Truth is, all this paperwork is being filed, for what, to intimidate Blagojevich because he was so raw. The prediction was made that Blagojevich would be out of office by
Lincoln’s birthday, but now it has been pushed forward to April because of all the tapes and paperwork which, supposedly, needs to be reviewed. It sounds to me more like a way to possibly, catch Blagojevich doing something wrong – after the fact.
It would seem as though, you need this time to manufacture some evidence because you had already listened to the majority of the tapes prior to arresting him and based on what you heard, you moved in to arrest him. It seems to me if you went through the process of bugging his phone, you would have had someone there monitoring the phone conversations. It feels like, you have got nothing concrete, at this time, on Blagojevich other than his attitude and a threat. It sounds to me like Burris should have been seated in the senate this morning.
And that’s the way I see it!!!

Great post! And for the record, I do not believe the signature from the Secretary of State is required.
The ONLY power Reid and the other Senators has is to expel a sitting senator and they cannot expel one simply because they don’t like who appointed him.
While I agree with the general content of your article, your mentioning of “Israel and its’ disproportionate attack on Gaza” don’t belong in the same sentence or the same article as something about the Senate.
While I agree on the Senate issue, I take issue with you on the Israeli military move. I have already weighed in on the issue in my blog, so I will not dare do so on your too.
The Senate for its part is already starting to back pedal on the Burris blockade. Feinstein has already caved in with Reid and Pelosi to cave in later this week.
The damage may have already been done by Reid who now has to find a way to work with the “junior senator from Illinois.
In terms of people acting irrational and controlling, not looking at what is real and creating confusion and chaos based on what they feel is right for someone else - I felt the Israel Gaza reference was timely. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
