U.S. troops will be receiving new rules of engagement in Iraq.  Under the new terms of agreement, U.S. troops will coordinate and execute all operations with the approval of the Iraqi government and implement them through the Iraqi security forces.

While they will still have the ability to protect themselves and the multinational forces from attacks, as well as, conduct operation in Iraq against al-Qaida and other extremist groups, Iraq will gain strict oversight over the nearly 150,000 American troops now on the ground.

This action represents a step towards full sovereignty for Iraq.  This security agreement replaces a U.N. mandate that gave the U.S. led coalition sweeping powers to conduct military operations however this pact is still subject to approval by Iraqi voters in a referendum by the end of July.

The downside to this is that as long as Americans are in Iraq, they will continue to be a target for insurgents so the danger and threat to life is still a real challenge for our troops.

While Bush said Friday that the fight in Iraq has been longer and more costly than expected, he defended the U.S. led invasion, saying the world could not risk leaving Saddam Hussein’s power unchecked.  This made me sick to my stomach, literally, because it confirmed to me that from day one this was all about Saddam Hussein and revenge.

While Bush would never admit this fact out loud, I know, looking into his eyes (click on the link above to look into his eyes for yourself) that somewhere in his soul this is a troubling issue that will haunt the remaining days of his life.

While he tried to convince himself and the world that this was about missiles of mass destruction, and the search for the 9/11 perpetrators, the real agenda was about Saddam Hussein.

Was this a Pyrrhic victory – a victory with devastating cost to the victor?  Because young lives were lost, economic devastation has been achieved and more ill will toward the United States, in the minds of irrational, suicidal people has been increased.

What a cost to pay for the life of one man – Well you got Saddam Hussein…

But you left Usama Bin Laden.

And that’s the way I see it!!!
